Regardless of the era, religion has always had two sides. When Buddhism emerged, it came to eradicate the negativity that had crept into religion; yet, despite its positive nature, it too eventually became mired in negativity. It devolved into a religion centered on indulgence.

Even today, the number of women in Sanatan Dharma is negligible; in our sect, female ascetics do not even constitute one percent. Manu wrote that men are like ghee and women like fire; when the two come close, melting is bound to occur. Consequently, this is discouraged and deemed improper. Without boundaries, rules, restraints, and supervision, even biological siblings cannot be prevented from succumbing to temptation. I am not speaking of recent times; this has been the case all along.

It happened in front of me : one day a woman was scolding her daughter, ‘Why are you lying like that?’ I was leaving my room at that time. I quickly returned to the room, wondering why I should get in between a mother and daughter. Later, I asked the daughter that why mother was scolding, and she told me that she was lying on her stomach in the wrong position. Lying down also changes attitudes and brings about a change in the mind. When I used to sleep with my legs crossed, my guru would say, ‘You're going to be a monk, why do you lie down like this? Should a monk lie down like this?’ I got into that habit then. Now that I'm older, I lie down straight. Sleeping with crossed legs is also prohibited in our culture. Certain taboos are crucial to a good life. 

It started well, but later even the Buddhists went astray. For example, society needed Dayanand Saraswati; he denounced the evils that had crept into the Sanatanis. He did a great job, but he would leave his books before his disciples and people, saying, Use them when you need them again. But his work became a separate sect. Kabir also opposed idol worship and opposed the evils in society, but he too became a sect, which was wrong.

As the opposition has become accustomed to in politics, they criticize and condemn. When Narasimha Rao was Prime Minister and Manmohan Singh became Finance Minister, the policy of economic liberalization was introduced. The Swadeshi Jagran Manch, affiliated with the BJP, stood up in opposition. However, when Atal Bihari Vajpayee became Prime Minister, the same liberal economic policies continued. I am not an economist, but I can tell you that liberalization increased the inflow of money. There was a lot of development. I cannot understand that if foreign companies come, they will rule over us and we will become slaves. The BJP said this, but when it came to power, it fell silent. Now, opposition has become synonymous with criticism. If the ruling party does something good, we should clap and say, That's good. Bravo! Even if our opponents say something good, we should say, Wow! We should avoid negativity.

What is Dharma? Part - 1

Even in countries where religion was once dismissed as opium, changes have now taken place. Churches are being built, and a new wave regarding religion is gradually sweeping through those very nations that once labeled it opium. However, the sense in which religion was termed opium in the modern context is entirely accurate—in fact, it is an understatement. For when religion fails to give true meaning to life, when people themselves lack faith in it, and when they are driven primarily by material indulgence and wealth, then religion is far worse than opium. Not merely Ninety percent, But Ninety-nine percent of those in the liquor trade are wealthy, whereas up to ninety percent of consumers are dying. The situation with religion has become much the same; this happens, when the true essence of religion is missing. 

However, when the Communists called religion opium, they failed to understand it completely—in fact, they got it entirely wrong. For instance, if a smuggler with a beard is caught, one certainly cannot label every bearded man a smuggler. Anyone active in the intelligence services would naturally adopt various disguises, growing or shaving off a beard as needed. Communists had once misunderstood religion, but now they too are correcting their perspective.

How to be a Sadhu?

Nowadays, affluent people change their sofas, tables, chairs, and decor every year. This should not be the case; one should lead a simple life—a life akin to that of Ram-Rajya. Just imagine how Lord Ram must have spent His time in the forest. Leaving aside His divinity—for He had everything in the palace of Ayodhya—He did not utter a single word of complaint during His time in the forest.

I once met a Mahatma in Vrindavan. I was deeply impressed by him, so I asked, You have become such an exemplary Sadhu; what is the secret behind this?

He said, I have come here to pour out my heart to you; do not simply interview me. Yes, I always kept one thing in mind—that I had come to become a Sadhu—and today, this is the fruit of that resolve.

I, too, had not come to Banaras to become a Sadhu; I had come to become a scholar and to remain unmarried. I had no intention of becoming a Sadhu, but once I became Ramanandacharya, I made an effort to embody the qualities of a Sadhu to some extent and to look like one. I benefited from this effort as well.

Just bear in mind that I am a Sadhu—that alone is enough for a man to truly become one. What is the need for outward display or a fancy seat? When the flesh withers away in old age, even that cushion will begin to feel hard and uncomfortable. When the face shrivels and the teeth fall out, will such cushions or fans be of any use? Certainly not.

We call those values ​​'Dharma' which bestow eternal life and bring profound happiness.
 

गुरुदेव महाराज के प्रवचन से एक कथा

जगद्गगुरु रामानंदाचार्य श्रीरामनरेशाचार्य जी महाराज युवा अवस्था में ऐसे दिखते थे। रामानंदाचार्य पद पर प्रतिष्ठित होने के एक वर्ष बाद का यह चित्र है,संभवत: वर्ष 1989 का। 

आजकल तो बड़े लोग हर साल अपना सोफा, कुर्सी-टेबल, सजावट बदल देते हैं। ऐसा नहीं होना चाहिए, सादगी का जीवन होना चाहिए। रामराज्य का जीवन होना चाहिए। जरा सोचिए कि राम जी ने जंगल में कैसे बिताया होगा समय। ईश्‍वर  की बात छोड़िए, अयोध्या के महल में तो सब कुछ था, किन्तु जंगल में रहकर एक दिन उफ् तक नहीं किया।

वृंदावन में एक महात्मा से मैं मिला था। उन्हें देखकर बहुत अच्छा लगा, तो मैंने उनसे पूछा, 'आप इतने अच्छे साधु हो गए, इसका रहस्य क्या है?

उन्होंने कहा, 'मैं तो आपको अपना रोना कहने आया हूं, आप मेरा ही इंटरव्यू मत लीजिए। हां, मुझे एक बात का सदा ध्यान रहा कि मैं साधु बनने आया हूं, और इसी का आज यह फल है।

मैं भी बनारस साधु बनने नहीं आया था, मैं तो विद्वान बनने आया था, अविवाहित रहने आया था। मुझे साधु तो नहीं बनना था, लेकिन जब रामानंदाचार्य हो गया, तो फिर कोशिश की कि थोड़े-बहुत साधु हम भी हो जाएं, साधुओं जैसे दिखने लगें। इस कोशिश से मुझे भी लाभ हुआ।

ध्यान दीजिएगा, केवल यह याद रहे कि मैं साधु हूं, तो आदमी साधु हो जाएगा। दिखावा क्या करना, गद्दी का क्या करना? जब शरीर का मांस ही सूख जाएगा, तो बुढ़ापे में तो ये गद्दा ही गडऩे लगेगा। चेहरा सिकुड़ जाएगा, दांत टूट जाएंगे, तो ये गद्दा-पंखा काम करेगा क्याद्द? कदापि नहीं करेगा।

उन मूल्यों को हम धर्म कहते हैं, जो शाश्वत जीवन देते हैं, जो बहुत सुख देते हैं।

संसार दान से चलता है - रामानंदाचार्य स्वामी श्रीरामनरेशाचार्य जी

 दान की किसको जरूरत नहीं है? आप अपनी लेखनी की रोटी खा रहे हैं, हम दान की रोटी खा रहे हैं, लेकिन आपमें और हममें कोई अंतर नहीं है। दोनों को दान की जरूरत है। पत्‍नी कहीं से दान में आई है या कोई बहन है आपकी? यदि बहन से शादी कर लिए होते, तो आज यहां कोई बैठने देता क्या? दरवाजा बंद कर दिया जाता। माता-पिता ही बाहर कर देते, समाज में सब थू-थू करते। दान है, कन्यादान प्राप्‍त हुआ है, किसी ने अपनी बेटी आपको दान की। जो आपके घर में बैठकर आपके बच्चों को संभाल रही है, आपके घर को संभाल रही है, हर व्‍यक्‍त‍ि दान से चलता है। यह संसार दान से चलता है।

ये जो आप सांस ले रहे हैं, आपके पिता जी का ऑक्सीजन है क्या? रतन टाटा भी ऑक्सीजन का बिल नहीं भरते हैं, अंबानी भी बिल नहीं भरते हैं? दान हुआ। आकाश हमारे पिता जी के द्वारा निर्मित है क्या? किसी ने दान किया है। हम ले रहे हैं, लेकिन लौटा नहीं रहे हैं। जिसने वायु, चंद्रमा, आकाश और सब कुछ दिया, जिसको हम सुप्रीम पावर कहते हैं, उसी ने वेद दिए। माना जाता है, वेद सृष्‍टि के साथ हमेशा चलते रहते हैं। वे ऐसे हैं, जिनका कभी नाश नहीं होता। अपने जीवन और संसार में दान की महिमा को ठीक से समझना चाहिए।

कभी हिंसा न करो - रामानंदाचार्य स्वामी श्रीरामनरेशाचार्य जी

(एक प्रवचन के अंश)

हम कभी नहीं चाहते कि हमारे साथ कोई हिंसा करे, मेरी वाणी की, मेरी सुन्दरता की, मेरे बल की, मेरे धन की हिंसा कर दे। वेदों ने कहा, मा हिंस्यात् सर्वाणि भूतानि। किसी भी जीव की हिंसा वर्जित है। कथा है कि एक ऋषि ने एक उडऩे वाले पतंगे के पंख पर कुछ गड़ा दिया था, तो उनको सूली पर चढऩा पड़ा था। एक मेरे भक्‍त हैं, मुझे सुना रहे थे, 'एक बार मैंने बंदूक का निशाना किया, विनोद कर रहा था, ऊपर एक चिडिय़ा थी, दुर्भाग्य से उसकी आंख में गोली लगी, वह गिर गई, वह बची नहीं। वह भक्‍त मेरे बड़े शुभचिंतकों में हैं, मैं जब उन्हें कर्म का सिद्धांत बता रहा था, तो उन्होंने मुझसे कहा, 'मैं आइंस्टीन हूं कर्म का, प्रयोगकर्ता। मुझे बेटा हुआ, उसकी दाहिनी आंख ठीक नहीं थी, जन्म से ही अंधा था, डॉक्टरों को दिखाया, उसका कोई इलाज नहीं था, तो देखिए तुरंत न्याय हो गया, इधर से लीजिए, उधर से दीजिए, कहीं और जाने का कोई अर्थ ही नहीं है।

वेद जिसको कहता है कि करो, वह धर्म है या उस कर्म से उत्पन्न ऊर्जा धर्म है। धर्म की दो परिभाषाएं हैं, कुमारिल भट्ट और प्रभाकर जी की। वेदनिहित कर्म को धर्म कहते हैं, वेदनिहित कर्म से उत्पन्न कर्म से जो शक्‍त‍ि उत्पन्न होती है, जो दिखाई नहीं पड़ती, उसे धर्म कहते हैं। वेदों में ऐसा कुछ भी नहीं है, जो दुनिया के लोगों के लिए मान्य न हो। उसके लिए मुझे दो बातें कहनी हैं। पहली बात, वह जो बनाई हुई पद्धति है, हमारा सनातन धर्म कहता है, अनादि सृष्‍टि का अनादि चिंतन हो और सबके लिए चिंतन हो। हरिजन के लिए भी चिंतन हो। जो दुकानदार लोग दिन भर झूठ बोलते हैं, वे भी घर में अपनी पत्‍नी से यही उम्मीद करते हैं कि पत्‍नी सत्य बोले। 

जिसने दिन भर झूठ बोला है कि यह सामान इतने का है, इसमें मार्जिन बिल्कुल नहीं है, किन्तु वह भी उम्मीद करता है कि उससे सच बोला जाए। 

सारे लोग ऐसा नहीं करते, किन्तु ज्यादातर लोग व्यवसाय में झूठ बोलते हैं, फिर भी वे चाहते हैं कि उनसे सच बोला जाए। हुआ न. . . सत्यम् वद्। 

मेरे लिए तो अवसर ही नहीं आता है कि झूठ बोलूं। सत्य की सबको जरूरत है।
